I've come across an opportunity to by up to 100 pounds of Legos. Most are new, but sorted.
You are watching: How many legos are in a pound
This is far from my speciality, but what's a fair price to pay per pound, and also the best way for a quick profit?
Thanks

Here's the general rule of thumb:
Pieces in set
Price
Divide price by pieces.
700 piece set for $70 is $0.10 per brick. Which is a standard price.
Anything under that starts getting into "good deal territory", the best sales you will ever see around the holidays (not clearance) are 30% off, which would be $0.07/brick.
Thus, used I would want to pay less than 7 cents per brick.
A pound of Legos can have up to 300 pieces, depending on size. 150-300 is a good estimate. By price, that's $10-$20/lb depending on the size if you are talking 7 cent bricks.
To make a profit/get a good value, you need bricks for half that. A good deal on used bricks is about 1/5th to 1/6th of new price of $0.10, so $0.016 to $0.02 per brick. If you say 2 cents by 225 bricks (splitting the difference), that's $4-$5/lb. I'd offer $40, but be willing to go up to $60.
Also factor in your time in sorting.

It depends on what type of lego - I usually do $5-$7 a pound on unsorted, unlicensed and $7-$9 a pound on Star Wars lego.

Look at eBay. Most stuff goes for about $12 per pound sorted and sanitized.

Goodwill Outlet Shopper
As little as possible. When I find them at the Goodwill outlet they're about $1.50/lb, but that's a handful of pieces at a time. My friend bought 70lbs for $3/lb, and she has been sorting them for a year or so (bricklink, not bulk lots).
My problem is I will play with the Lego instead of selling them.

Where do you usually find bulk lego? I haven't had much luck finding them (I found about 100 pieces in a thrift store some weeks ago but they weren't the best quality)
